Europe’s battery industry is navigating a challenging environment: global overcapacity, intense cost pressure and significant dependence on non European suppliers are reshaping the competitive landscape. Despite these headwinds, long term demand fundamentals remain intact – placing even greater emphasis on stable industrial ramp ups, validated technology and resilient supply chains.
In this panel, industry leaders discuss what it truly takes to build a competitive European battery supply chain today. The focus lies on cost effective production, risk managed scaling, standardised factory and process concepts, and the establishment of reliable regional and global supply and service networks – not on vision statements, but on operational realities.
This will be a discussion for those who seek realism, not rhetoric – and who want to understand the concrete enablers of a competitive European battery supply chain, including:
- How companies navigate global market volatility and oversupply
- Why validated processes and equipment are critical for successful launches
- How standardisation and scalable factory concepts help reduce cost and complexity
- What Europe must address to reduce strategic dependencies and strengthen its industrial base
[Case study] Green cost calculator: Measuring the ROI of e-trucks and green transport
Understand how to measure total lifecycle costs of e-trucks and low-emission transport across the total supply chain, including the use of a new ‘Green Cost Calculator’ co-developed with ECG, which aims to support long-term investment decision making.
Whilst the upfront costs of e-truck fleets are still higher than diesel, changing European regulations, charging and network opportunities can mean investment today could offer returns and lower total costs already in the lifespan of such equipment. But calculating the total costs and benefits can be a challenge for any single logistics company or manufacturers.
In this session, you will gain strategies for understanding these costs and the ROI for investments in electric trucks and green transport. One specific example will be shared as part of a partnership with the Association of European Vehicle Logistics (ECG) and the ITCL at the Technical University of Berlin.

[Panel] Resiliency lessons: Learning from supply chain disruptions and continuous improvement
While supply chain operations face bottlenecks and uncertainty all the time, how stakeholders respond will differentiate the winners from the others.
With fragile, multifaced and complex supply chains, it only takes a small element to fail for there to be serious, long lasting and impactful breakdown in operations. Whether the root causes are internal mistakes or external industry challenges, OEMs and their suppliers not only have to fix root causes but take the opportunity to learn from them. That can come through the use of smart technology, from standardising processes and working with teams and partners to foster continuous learning and innovations.
In this session, leaders will share lessons in resiliency, from understanding where a supply chain failure or bottleneck could have been avoided, to improving transparency and ensuring partnership always includes honestly and sharing ‘bad news first’ to encourage improvement.
The session will explore continuous improvement at strategic and operational levels, including how to improve early warning systems, manage future risks and eventually increase supply chain resiliency, control and agility.
Join this session to hear from leading stakeholders with an honest assessment on how they:
- Take stock of individual supply chain incidents and risks, examine them internally and openly, and remove any stigma associated with discussing failures
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement at a corporate and departmental level
- Share learnings, internally and with stakeholder partners, to reduce the chances of systematic mistakes repeating itself
- Develop strategies to anticipate and manage future supply chain disruptions using technologies and improved processes
